03 THE TALL TALES OF URCHIN
2016

Created and directed by Hamish Steele

Starring Holly Taylor, Zawe Ashton, Andrew Gower, Will Kenning and Hamish Steele

Nickelodeon
In this higgledy piggledy era-defying mash up of a place, Urchin is accompanied by fellow orphans and friends Ragamuffin and Mudlark. Through their get rich quick schemes and Urchin's irrepressible optimism, the trio find themselves on an adventure with twists, turns and lots of laughter.

THE TALL TALES OF URCHIN came about after a rocky production on my previous Nickelodeon short. For this short, I was put in touch with Blink Industries and this ended up being my first of many projects with them.

This short was developed for about a year into a potential series at Nickelodeon. Another pilot was written and I created a lot more concept art (shown below). Unfortunately, it didn’t get picked up, partly because the subject matter just kept skewed too old. But I am still looking at ways to adapt this project into something new, as I have a fascination with the Victorian era that is yet to be sated.

Below are some character concepts by me and background art by Christian Schlaeffer.
